Austrian Institute of Technology

AIT – Austrian Institute of Technology is Austria’s largest non-university research Institute and has over 1.300 employees researching the technologies, techniques and tools for the infrastructure solutions of tomorrow. Compared to universities which are focusing on basic research, AIT covers the entire spectrum from taking up emerging technologies, first proof of concepts, and applied research to transferring these emerging technologies into specific applications up to demonstrators and prototyping. The Molecular Diagnostics business unit develops and provides a range of technologies for biomarker discovery and validation for diagnosis, patient stratification and personalized medicine including bioinformatics methods to deal with large omics datasets in the context of complex diseases.

Role within BIOMAP

AIT will provide cutting-edge tools and technologies for biomarker discovery and validation, both bench-sides as well as in-silico (WP2, WP3 and WP6). This includes high density peptide arrays for antibody biomarker discovery, epigenomic and transcriptomic analysis and a range of technologies for biomarker validation (high-throughput microfluidic qPCR, bead-based multiplexed immunoassays). We will provide our expertise in minimally invasive / low sample input preanalytical techniques. Our bioinformatics experts will perform clustering techniques related to class discovery and characterise patient clusters with respect to their clinical features as well as the defining gene sets through their functional annotations.
